Meet Dr. Shannon Young

A Passion for Helping Others

As a dentist, I have the opportunity to make a lasting and positive change with each person who comes to the office.

There are many things I love about being a dentist! I enjoy providing useful and practical education while treatment planning with patients. Taking extra time to make sure you understand everything and then seeing the results when a person comes back for a recall appointment and has an improved dental review.

Aiding patients to alleviate pain and restoring function, so people are able to enjoy life again.

I also enjoy working with people to regain or develop a smile that is filled with confidence, especially when they are shy or worried about their appearance. Facial expression is a huge part of communication and I love making people feel confident and expressive with an artistic touch on aesthetic work.

Most of all, I love partnering with each patient to establish and maintain their healthiest, happiest, and best smile!

Education and Professional Affiliations

I was interested in healthcare at an early age and drawn to dentistry as a career in which I could combine art, science, working with my hands, and helping others.

I attended Michigan State University, where I graduated with honors and a Bachelor of Science degree. I then attended the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, receiving my Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS). My education allows me to offer surgical treatments (such as extractions), and dentures (both complete dentures and removable partial dentures) to my patients.

Dental school graduation included several distinctions, including the:

  • Comprehensive Care Award
  • American Academy of Implant Dentistry Award
  • Dr. Frank Smith Memorial Award in Removable Partial Dentures

One of the most exciting aspects of dentistry, I think, is the constant advancement as a result of ongoing research. I am able to be a lifelong learner, staying on top of new materials and techniques in order to provide the best care possible.

As a member of the American Dental Association and Michigan Dental Association, I have access to the latest developments in oral healthcare. Through conferences, seminars, lectures, online classes, and journals, I constantly strengthen my knowledge. This ensures I provide each patient with the highest quality, evidence-based dental care and the best possible results.

Beyond the Office

When not working you can normally find me with my dog, who loves taking me on hikes. Being active is my favorite way to spend daily free time: cycling, running, and practicing yoga, to name a few. When I have more time off you can find me on a lake up north gathered with family and friends.
